KGL Holding in collaboration with the University of the Pacific School of Engineering & Computer Science at Stockton, California U.S.A., invited on March 8, 2011 US Astronaut José Moreno Hernández to Kuwait as part of its Corporate Citizenship Program under its education initiatives aimed at promoting educational awareness and inspiring people in achieving their goals in the service of the community and people. Hernández along with his delegation embarked on an educational tour in various schools, and scientific organizations, imparting his life story of perseverance and success as an Astronaut. In addition to the meetings at Kuwait University, he visited and delivered presentations at the American School of Kuwait, Pakistani School, Indian Community School of Kuwait, Al Bayan Bilingual School as well as the Kuwait Science Club and the Scientific Center of Kuwait. During his presentations, Hernández stressed on the importance of education as a vital tool in empowering individuals and reaching their full potentials to succeed in life.
Astronaut Hernandez was also the guest of honor in the symposium organized by KGL Holding in cooperation with the Global Center (School of Business Administration- Kuwait University) dubbed “Space Shuttle Discovery: Mission to the International Space Station” that was held at the Marina Hotel and attended by key Executives from the private sector and KGL Holding. He recounted to the attendees how his dream of reaching the space became a reality as he blasted off into space on August 28, 2009. On his mission, he spent nearly two weeks in space and rotated around the earth 217 times that equaled to 7.5 million miles as he was involved in the involved technical work of transporting material from space shuttle Discovery to the International Space Station and operated the robotic arm with ease. While in orbit, he became the first person to use Spanish language in space while tweeting.
