Damietta Port, Egypt

KGL IP, among others, has signed a concession agreement with Damietta Port Authority (DPA) for a 40 – year concession to develop a new container terminal in the port. Under the terms of the concession agreement, Damietta International Ports Company (DIPCO) was established with KGLIP being a shareholder therein as well as the manager of the terminal upon its construction. . The project, which will occupy approximately 130 hectares of land at the port, will include the construction of new quay walls and container stacking areas in order to service large super post Panamax ships.

The project includes the construction of a new U shaped basin suitable for 10,500TEU container vessels with length of 400m, width of 53m and draft of 16m. The project will be developed in two phases. In the first phase, the terminal will have throughout capacity of 2.5 MM TEU per year by the year 2012. During the second phase, more stacking area will be created to increase the capacity to its full development of 4 MM TEU per year.

The container equipment will consist predominantly of STS gantry cranes capable of handling vessels of 10,500 TEU and above. Yard handling operations use RTGs, terminal tractors and trailers. In its full development, the terminal will be equipped with 22 STS gantry cranes and 55 RTGs.
