KGL History

Following the Liberation of Kuwait, the company had to rebuild its stevedoring, transportation, waste management, and waste collection operations. Mr. Esmail Dashti and his son Mr. Saeed Dashti, with their perseverance and determination, rebuilt the company and continued its expansion.  In 1993, KGL introduced Passenger Transport Services. KGL transport buses began transporting passengers to K.S.A, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. KGL later became a member of the Arab Union for Land Transport.

In 1996, KGL became the sole operator of Shuaiba container terminal port.  KGL expanded further by diversifying its line of products by launching the Car Rental division in 1997, highly targeting the Governmental sector. In 2000, KGL participated in the first privatization project in the K.S.A, where it won a 25 year concession to operate Jeddah Islamic North Container Terminal as part of a consortium (Gulf Stevedoring Company).  Within the same year, KGL became listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange.

The year of 2004 marked a major shift in KGL’s long history, where regional and global demands increased substantially for fully integrated transportation, logistics and Supply Chain Management services.  Given these circumstances, and in order to achieve sustainable growth and profitability, the company found it necessary to leverage its core-competencies in Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain services, resulting in the establishment of Kuwait & Gulf Link Holding Company (KGL Holding). By 2007, all lines of business were spun-off into separate independent entities, enhancing efficiency for each sector, and creating economies of scale for the group of companies.
